SEATTLE: DAY 1

So these are the first of my Pacific Northwest Adventure pictures. I am editing them slightly. This is our first day. We grabbed some coffee (How Seattle of us) and then checked out the Olympic Sculpture Park and walked around the city a bit. The last two pictures I used the color range selection tool in photoshop to highlight an accent color. Ellie's Powershot camera does this on the camera, but my expensive SLR can't. STUPID. Oh well, thankfully I am versed in photoshop so I can do it later in editing. More to come!
Ellie's first taste of Seattle Coffee. (This trip anyway)

 Me taking Detail shots? Never...

Sorry, Landscape moment. Love the lines.

My brother follows me everywhere haha. i had no idea he had a boutique clothing store for men.

A New Adventure

So I am about to head to the airport on my next adventure with my travel buddy Ellie. We are always on the move and this time its a double destination of Seattle (Our perennial favorite) and Portland (new to us). We will get to see a show by Brandi Carlile, one of Ellie's artists that she represents. The concert is in conjunction with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and should be amazo. I am also going to be meeting up with my old HighSchool friend Stephanie Shen for some coffee (How Seattle of us) and will be staying with my Illini studio mate Sarah Butler for the night tonight. The trip should be pretty great and i will surely update as I go, but for now, I would like to share a highlight reel of the last trip Ellie and I took to NYC in April. I made this video for work, so it mainly shows the greenspaces and parks in the city but its a nice video anyway. Enjoy!

Locked and Loaded.

OK well I am not loaded. I am actually quite poor, but I m locked in on the licensure front for sure. A few weeks back I posted that I passed my Landscape Architecture Registration Exams (LARE) and was very excited about all of that. What I dont think I mentioned is that after completing those exams, I had to file a council record, which consists of gathering a compilation of transcripts, four personal references from landscape architects that have supervised me, professional references from my employers, and of course my test scores. It took a few weeks of waiting on mail and a lot of patience on my part. (I am not good at waiting) Once it had all been compiled, I filled out the official application and wrote a check to the Missouri Board of Architects, Professional Engineers, Proffesional Land Surveyors and Landscape Architects (Yes I wrote that all on one check line, impressed?) and sent it all to Jefferson City. I received a post card saying that the processing could take up to 60 days, so again, I prepared myself to wait.

Remarkably, two weeks later i get a packet in the mail containing my official license certificate and paperwork. I am official! My mom took the big formal certificate and is having it framed for me. and I order my stamp/seal this morning so I can actually put my license to work!

I am done. Its nice to not have anything to worry about regarding all of that. Well, actually I shouldnt speak too soon. I have to renew it in 2 months already. Oh well...

baby Shaun

As a gift to my friends Kristen and Kelcey (sisters) I promised to take some pictures of Kelcey's baby Shaun. It was tough getting him to smile but we tried like hell and this was about as close as we got haha. Oh well. He is a freaking adorable kid and it was fun to shoot them all. I havent had a chance to edit many yet, but I wanted to post one that I really loved. More to come!

Work Photography

I am working on taking the new head shots for the staff at work. It is part of a rebranding effort that we are working through right now. The current pics are stuffy and all corporate. The new headshots are more relaxed and artistic. I have take wuite a few so far, and then altered them in photoshop to make them black and white and add some contrast. Here are a few I have taken so far. I addded friends that I know wouldnt mind me sharing haha.THey are made to look a bit grainy and washed out on purpose. Its that clean, "designery" look.

My Pride and Joy

I have posted pics of this before but it bears repeating. This was one of my first solo design projects and is my favortie project to date. I go to work with my friends Jen, Brian, and Nikki on it and it turned out great. Let me know what you think. I didnt take these pics, they are the professional ones, but wanted to shoe off my LA skillz. Holla. SOme of them have some photoshop action in them becasue the plants hadn't grown in yet, but its all good.

My sister in law's new photo blog!

Check it out. Its great for begineer photographers (like me) to pic up some good tricks and tips. Also she invites everyone to post every Friday about things you've learned. Its really cool! Check it out!

WORK WORK WORK

SO I know I havent posted in about 20 years, give or take. I have been super busy at work and with life. I have been taking photos though and am about to unleash like 3 week worth of photography on you all. Let me start with my latest work venture. We often hire professional photographers to capture our work so that we can use them as collateral in our marketing efforts. Last week, we needed to use a project in a Proposal, but we didnt have any professional photgraphs yet. Since I have recently started taking all of our in house staff head-shots for resumes and proposals, they decided to send me out to take some shots. I think I did a pretty good job, having never shot "professionally before. Here they are. Let me know what you think.
